How to clean your car interior and glass without streaks
By Sam W - SoapX Ltd.
A clean interior should look like it did when the car was new: matt, not shiny, and with no smears on the screens or glass. The trick is using the right cloth for each surface and working in a sensible order.
Start dry
- Remove mats and rubbish, then vacuum seats, carpets and seams.
- Dust the dashboard, door cards and trim with a dry short pile interior cloth. It grips dust without leaving fluff and is gentle on screens and gloss black panels.
- Use a soft detailing brush to lift dust from vents, seams and around buttons.
Clean the trim
No.10 Interior and Trim Cleaner leaves a clean, matt, factory look with no greasy feel.
- Spray onto your cloth, not onto the dashboard. This keeps overspray off the glass and screens.
- Wipe the surface, then buff dry with a second cloth.
- Test on a hidden area first.
For Alcantara, suede and other sensitive trim, use the Delicate formula and a light touch.
Clean the glass last
Doing the glass last means any dust or overspray from the rest of the cabin is cleaned off at the end.
- Spray No.09 Glass and Visor Cleaner onto the glass or onto a waffle weave glass cloth. It is ammonia free, so it is safe on window tints.
- Wipe with one face of the cloth.
- Turn the cloth and buff dry with a clean face.
- Clean the inside of the windscreen last, as it is where haze builds up.
In winter, the Winter formula adds anti fog and helps clear light frost. Our winter car care guide covers salt film on the outside of the glass.
Look after your cloths
Keep interior and glass cloths separate from paint and wheel cloths. Wash them at 40°C without fabric softener, which leaves residue that causes streaks.
