Why these finishes need a gentler foam
Matt paint and vinyl wraps
A matt finish gets its look from a surface that scatters light. You cannot polish a mark out of it, because polishing is what makes a surface shiny. Anything that leaves gloss behind shows up as a blotchy patch. So the whole job is prevention: lift the dirt off without rubbing it in, and use nothing that adds shine.
Ceramic coatings
A coating is a hard, slick layer that dirt struggles to grip, so most of the dirt comes away in the pre wash. It still needs washing. Road film and brake dust build up on top and mute the gloss and the water beading. A gentle foam every week or two keeps the coating doing its job.
How to snow foam a wrapped or coated car
- Work in the shade on cool panels. Nothing should dry on the finish.
- Rinse off the loose grit. Keep the lance moving and stay back from the edges and seams of a wrap.
- Pre rinse if the car is properly dirty. No.01 Pre Rinse and Bug Remover in the Delicate formula is low alkalinity for coatings, wraps and matt paint. Spray from the bottom up, leave for 2 to 5 minutes and rinse.
- Mix the foam at 1:15. Water in the bottle first, then about 65 ml of foam, topped up to 1 litre.
- Foam from the bottom up and let it dwell for 3 to 5 minutes. On a hot day, rinse sooner.
- Rinse from the top down. On a well kept coating, most of the dirt has already gone.
Follow with No.05 Contact Shampoo in the Delicate formula and the two bucket method. Glide the mitt in straight lines with light pressure. There is no need to scrub.
What to keep off matt paint, wraps and coatings
- Polish and cutting compounds. They create shiny patches on matt finishes and wear a coating away.
- Gloss enhancing waxes and sealants on matt paint and wraps.
- Strong pre washes and strip shampoos as part of a routine wash. Keep the Extreme formulas for a deliberate deep clean on gloss paint.
- Automatic brush washes, which drag grit across the surface.
- Scrubbing and circular motions.
Deal with bird droppings and bug splatter quickly on a matt finish. The longer they sit, the more likely they are to leave a mark.

Common questions
Can I use snow foam on a vinyl wrap?
Yes, with a gentle foam and a sensible distance. Use a foam made for wraps, keep the pressure washer lance moving and away from edges and seams, and follow the care advice from the maker of your film.
Will snow foam strip a ceramic coating?
A gentle foam used at the label ratio is part of normal coating care. What wears a coating away is abrasion from polish, cutting compounds and brush washes. Check the aftercare advice from whoever applied your coating before using a stronger foam.
Why has my ceramic coating stopped beading?
It is usually clogged, not gone. Traffic film and iron particles sit on top of the coating and hide it. Regular gentle washing prevents that, and a deeper clean normally brings the beading back.
Can I use it on paint protection film?
Film makers publish their own care advice and it differs from one to the next, so check theirs first. Our wrap and PPF aftercare database lists what the main makers say.
