The Two Bucket Gang code, rule by rule
By Ollie B - SoapX Ltd.
The Two Bucket Gang is everyone who washes their car with two buckets. Nobody signs up, there are no ranks and there is nothing to buy. There is a code, though, and every line of it is there for a reason. These are the six rules and what sits behind each one.
What is the Two Bucket Gang?
It is the community SoapX started in 2026 for the UK car scene. The entry test is one wash: one bucket for the wash and one for the rinse. Any two buckets count and any car counts. A Corsa on steelies with two buckets outranks a supercar with a sponge.
The Two Bucket Gang page is the home of the code. This guide is the reasoning.
Rule 1: Two buckets. Always.
With one bucket, the dirt you rinse out of the mitt goes into your shampoo and back onto the next panel. A second bucket of clean water takes that dirt first. It is the single biggest change most people can make to how they wash.

Rule 2: Foam first. Touch last.
Swirl marks come from dragging dirt across paint. So before the mitt comes out, a pre rinse and a snow foam take off as much loose dirt as possible without touching the car. The less there is left on the panel, the less there is to drag.

Rule 3: A dropped mitt is a dead mitt.
A deep pile mitt picks up grit and holds it. That is its job on paint, and it does the same on a driveway. If it hits the ground, it comes off the job until it has been through the washing machine.

Rule 4: Know your ratio.
Concentrates are designed to work at a set dilution. Too weak and they do not clean. Too strong and you use more product and spend longer rinsing, with no gain in cleaning. Measuring takes ten seconds.
| Product | Summer, Winter and Delicate | Extreme |
|---|---|---|
| No.01 Pre Rinse and Bug Remover | 1:10 | 1:5 |
| No.02 Snow Foam | 1:15 | 1:10 |
| No.05 Contact Shampoo | 1:200 | 1:100 |
The dilution ratio calculator works out the millilitres for any bottle or bucket. In Gang shorthand, running 02W at 1:15 means No.02 Snow Foam, Winter formula, mixed 1 part to 15.
Rule 5: Sunday is Service.
A car that is washed every week never gets dirty enough to need scrubbing. Regular washing means lighter dirt, less contact and fewer chances to mark the paint. Sunday is the tradition. The habit is the point.

Rule 6: Respect every build. Clean or crime scene.
This is the only rule that is not about washing. Every car at a meet is someone's project, whatever it cost and whatever state it is in. A car that needs the full rig is a crime scene, not a punchline. The problem is the sponge, never the person holding it.
The bucket check
The Gang sign is a photo.
- Wash with two buckets.
- Before you rinse, take a photo with both buckets beside the car.
- Post it and tag @soapx_uk with #SoapXLab, or drop it in the Discord.
The enemies
Every crew needs something to stand against. The Gang has two, and they work as a pair: Gary the herring gull and Ken the feral pigeon. The full case files are on the Enemies List.
